TREKKER MAGAZINE: OUR MISSION

The uniquely active culture of southern California’s South Bay lends itself to the immense popularity of outdoor adventure and travel. The people who live here find endless opportunities in their environment for experience and inspiration; the area’s beaches, estuaries, and hills, and the wider region’s deserts, rivers, and mountains foster a love of the outdoors and a desire to explore. Through vivid images and vigorous writing, Trekker Magazine captures this spirit and informs this culture of adventure.

Published four times a year, Trekker Magazine is a seasonal, full-color outdoor adventure and travel publication that entertains, motivates, and enlightens its readers. Trekker Magazine is locally owned and independently operated in the South Bay.

Trekker Magazine’s writers offer vibrant and refreshing first-hand accounts of outdoor adventuring in their local terrain—as well as tales of their travel excursions around the globe. Trekker Magazine is geared toward both the armchair traveler and the full-scale adventurer and prides itself on writers who live for the moment, are passionate about their experiences, and enjoy passing firsthand knowledge on to their readers.

Each issue features photo galleries, trail reviews, local people profiles, and travel essays. Various seasonal activities are also highlighted in each issue; these topics include hiking, biking, running, as well as a multitude of other sports such as snowboarding, skiing, rock climbing, kayaking, seasonal hikes, and more.

Trekker Magazine is a FREE publication that can be found in retail stores, restaurants, and other establishments throughout the South Bay cities of Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, and Torrance. THE SOUTH BAY

Lying on the outer edge of metropolitan Los Angeles, the South Bay got its name from its geographic location on the southern shores of Santa Monica Bay. Roughly 15 miles from central Los Angeles, the South Bay hosts an immense population and great ethnic diversity. North of the South Bay area lie the beaches of Venice, Santa Monica, and Malibu; south are Long Beach and Orange County.

The South Bay has a strong and growing economy. Several large corporations are headquartered here and countless others have major regional offices in the area. In addition to the bustling commercial activity, the South Bay’s beaches and other areas of natural beauty draw tourists from all over the world. Locals and visitors alike enjoy miles of trails perfect for hiking, trail running and mountain biking. And, of course, experts and neophytes alike engage in the area’s traditional favorite sport, surfing.

The South Bay is very much a part of the southern California region, which is host to many destinations for outdoors adventure and exploration. The San Gabriel, San Bernardino, San Jacinto, and Santa Ana Mountains are all located within a two-hour drive from the South Bay, and the grand Sierra Nevada Mountains are just a few more hours to the north. South Bay residents routinely make the trek to Mammoth Mountain in the winter for skiing and snowboarding and to Big Bear Lake in the summer for boating and waterskiing. Catalina Island is just a 45 minute boat ride away—or, if one is competing in the annual South Bay paddle race, a six (to ten) hour journey.
